Piecing Together Life: Embracing the Gaps, the Journey, and the Support Along the Way

Perfect analogy for my life recently! And I didn’t think a puzzle would humble me this much 🧩 At first, it felt up my alley, until I realized the image on the goddamn box doesn’t actually match the puzzle. On purpose. Extra level of cruelty 😂 I felt literally going half-blind, and more than once questioning my life choices, I almost gave up the whole thing, "eff this shit, this is no fun".

Fast-fwd almost a month later: the puzzle is “done”… except it’s missing two pieces. And surprisingly, well, that feels okay.

Because somewhere along the way, it stopped being about finishing it perfectly and became about the quiet satisfaction of placing one piece… then another. Even if only that much, from time to time, one step after the other.

I had to get creative — switching between colors, shapes, look at it upside down — and also disciplined enough to step away when I got too tense (literally pain in the neck). I could only do it with bright natural light cuz the glare on my table - so extra points for timing, especially knowing Brussels' sky..Interestingly: every time I took a break and came back, something clicked. My brain saw it differently. A fresh perspective. Less force, more flow. Yeah neuroplasticity!

It’s such a right-brain / left-brain dance: creativity and control, intuition and structure. Very… familiar.

At one point, I was fully losing my shit 😅 and my Mom came through with a photo of when she did it — on her own, without help. The support arrived right when I needed the extra help. And revering her resilience, patience, and quiet determination reminded me how much wisdom lives in the people who’ve walked longer roads than us!

In the end, I had to take it apart to leave for the holidays. But I packed the edges separately, so the next player gets a head start. Paying it forward, puzzle-style.

Maybe life is a bit like that too.

Not always matching the picture we were given.

Missing a couple of pieces.

Needing breaks, help, creativity, and patience.

And still… deeply worth the process, even satisfying- it is a beautiful PIECE! 😍
